Exactly the same as making crane chains, except with origami butterflies! Once you've mastered this simple origami butterfly, why not try making chains of both cranes and butterflies.

you will need:
  • 6-8 squares of paper (any size you like but 6"x6" is practical)

  • A needle and thread

  • 6-8 small beads

  • Anything else you may wish to add!

Costings:
This is a simple decoration that will cost you next to nothing to make.

You can buy some nice paper or better still, recycle the likes of sheet music, maps and magazine cut outs.

You can add things such as charms or why not be a bit more rustic and add a pine cone or some feathers at the end of you chain.

If recycled materials are used and you already have a needle and thread, the only spending will be on a few small beads. You can make this thoughtful gift for well under 50p.

Step 1:

To make an origami butterfly, begin by creasing your paper as seen above.

Making the butterfly

Follow the tuturial to make an origami butterfly.

Step 2:

threading the butterflies together

After you have tied your thread around any extra charms you want to add, put the thread through the bead as seen above.

Pull tight and it will secure the bead.

Next take the thread through the loop you just made.

Using the needle, take your thread throught the butterfly and the bead will keep it in place.

Repeat with each of your butteflies then tie a loop at the top for hanging.
