SECRET BOOK BOXES

Someone give you The Hunger Games for Christmas? Don't worry, you can put it to good use with this sneaky gift idea. Turn your book into a secret hiding place, somewhere your friend can stash all their high-grade glitter. When their mother comes into their room to do the routine drug search their treasured copy of Catching Fire will be the last place she looks.

YOU WILL NEED:

A book - ideally a larger one
A scalpel or craft knife
A ruler
Glue
Some paints to decorate

COSTINGS:

If you recycle one of your old books and already have a paper knife and paints, this gift will cost nothing to make.

Step 1:

Leave a few pages at the front and back of the book.

This can be time consuming and tiring. Take extra care not to rip the pages as you go.

Using a ruler, cut out a rectangle in the middle of the page. You will have to press fairly hard.

You may want to smooth the edges with your craft knife once you are done.

Step 2:

Glue the pages together from the inside of the box. Put a plastic bag between the pages and the cover.

Leave to dry. Place a weight on the top.

Step 3:

Paint the inside of the book and you're done!
